Mission
The mission of Friends of the Brooklyn Urban Garden Center for Sustainability (“Friends of BUGCS”) is to promote the education of children and their families by serving as a community resource for information regarding environmental and sustainability issues. A primary focus is to reach this goal by providing financial support, as well as planning and operational support, for the establishment and ongoing operation of the proposed Brooklyn Urban Garden Charter School (BUGS).
Activities
Friends of BUGCS will support outreach efforts to the community, particularly programming related to sustainability, food justice and environmental awareness. Outreach will serve the dual purpose of informing and engaging the public in the school and, with an emphasis on stewardship of the environment, provide information, resources and sustainability education.
Role of the Organization
Once BUGS is established, Friends of BUGCS will encourage students’ parents in the ongoing efforts to provide financial and operational support for the school, such as for the school’s Parent Teacher Association. If you would like to participate in this exciting project please contact us.
